Overview

Primarily remote, but must live in or near the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Approximately 10% travel within Texas.

The Audio/Video Design Engineer is responsible for all aspects of the A/V Systems installation specifications, functionality, and design for our commercial clients. The person in this role is an equal parts sales engineer and design specialist. As a Sale Engineer, this position may participate in discovery meetings with the Sales Department and project site surveys to determine and document client requirements and expectations from a technology perspective. The AV Design Engineer uses the documentation obtained to create quotes, BOMs, SOWs, and drawings for the projects. Additionally, this position coordinates with the Operations and Development teams to design, describe, and deliver solutions. This position requires consistent research, learning, and dedication to the rapidly changing technologies in the Audio/Video and Control Systems space. Familiarity with modern av components, device connectivity, best practices, and drawing standards is vital. Must live in or near the DFW area. This will include approximately 10% of travel to other Texas cities.

Responsibilities

  • Experience comprehending, interpreting, and editing Architectural, Structural, and Electrical construction drawings and specifications.
  • Review pre-construction design and documentation, including RFIs, RFPs, ASIs, and any addendums to specifications.
  • We are creating technical design drawings, hardware and services pricing, miscellaneous materials, and cabling for BOMs and proposals, including pricing and stock/availability of the materials required.
  • Follows industry standard protocol (NSCA, Avixa) in processes and services to ensure the client’s quality standards are met.
  • Ability to partner with the Sales team to communicate and coordinate technical design solutions with clients and Operations Personnel.
  • Create system SOWs and functional descriptions to include a Detailed summary of proposed systems operation and integration with other components, as well as all CAG Exclusions, Inclusions, Customer responsibilities, and Financial Terms.
  • Create a Bill of Materials (BOM) for all project-related systems, components, hardware, cabling, and any budgets related to additional rigging, Equipment rentals, infrastructure, and travel/per diem requirements.
  • Create Sales and Operational Support Documents using AUTOCAD or MS Visio or other graphics software required to illustrate functional and wiring diagrams, elevations, terminations, mounting concepts and methods, locations of services, etc.
  • Collaborate with the team to conceptualize the solution based on the client’s requirements and prepare presentation documents.
  • Ability to participate in testing and commissioning audio-visual systems on site and equipment rack fabrication, termination, and calibration of AV systems when needed.
  • Attend customer meetings in support of sales activities (on occasion).
  • Establish and maintain a positive and effective line of communication with customers, vendors, partners, and colleagues.
  • Attend training (in person and remote) to further their knowledge of AV technology and to be aware of advances in modern device capabilities.
  • Meet with manufacturers and distribution representatives to learn about current trends and emerging technologies.
  • Familiarity with AV Math principles concerning key aspects of Audio Visual system design.
  • Maintain and file AV System Project Documentation.

Qualifications

  • Experience designing AV solutions for commercial projects.
  • Proficient with AUTOCAD, MS Visio, and other design software platforms.
  • D-tools or Jetbuilt experience preferred.
  • Ability to manage junior design personnel.
  • Projection systems.
  • Digital video transport protocols, cabling, and extension systems (Video over IP, HDBaseT).
  • Proficiency in PC-based media players, Windows, and basic networking.
  • Expert at performing site surveys (as needed).
  • Ability to diagnose complex system problems.
  • Knowledge and understanding of QSC/Crestron/Extron control systems and other industry-standard equipment.
  • Experience with AV Control System programming.
  • AVIXA CTS is a “nice to have” (D Certification preferred).
  • Must live in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.
  • Must be open to approximately 10% travel (within Texas).
  • Must be eligible to work for any US employer without requiring sponsorship.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
